Aurora (2019)
Summary
Contemporary northern Finland. Asylum seeker with daughter gets to stay the night at a volunteers house.
A local girl and her friend dreams about bigger things while partying a lot. Alcohol, sauna and karaoke.
Paths are crossed. It gets messy. It's good. It's sort of a Finnish "Smala Sussi", but a tad more subtle.
Things I like
- a well placed fart, seldom depicted in a similar circumstance.
- a grumpy man with a good heart that remembers the date when he and his wife first met, even though she has forgotten it.
- the way class is depicted in a comedy noir setting.
Things I like a little less
- the character Ulla is a bit to stereotypical and flat. She would've blended right into the goofy characters of "Smala Sussi", but in this context the character stands out from the rest. Anyway, it's endurable.
